Well if your willing to spend the time and money the best thing you could do for the project is to get a nice donor truck, you'll need most of the front suspension, front diff (needs to be the same ratio as rear end), transfer case, transmission, front and rear drive shafts (possibly the yoke from the donor rear end if the year is diffrent) wiring harness since its driffrent from 4x4 to 2wd ...Short answer: no. It's never been a feasible cost affective way of getting 4wd. It would be even harder and more complicated on newer trucks.
